-
How many are between the trees of Al-Ajra’, and Ramah, and La’la’
-
From tender, pained hearts, intoxicated with ecstasy and unaware of themselves.
-
You see him among the finest garments, yet he is wounded by the swords of gaze.
-
So be gentle with him, and do not ask about his squandered heart.
-
He loved the sanctuary and was sincere, when its right had become clear and manifest.
-
For his wish is to be delivered from the lowest depth.
-
To the first station, and the abode of pure friendship,
-
And the lofty, exalted dwelling, may it be well-watered for him from that resting place.
-
I departed from that place, not by my choice nor my contentment.
-
So, oh time that has passed, if the past can return, then return.
-
And bow when the night grows dark, a bowing of fear and hope.
-
And ride in the ships of salvation towards the widest expanse.
-
Upon you is the tahajjud prayer, and stand long, and prostrate.
-
And spend the night as the companion of the star (Farqad), and drink cups of tears.
-
Stand by the ruling of the Mushaf (the Qur’an) without any distortion or alteration.
-
And do not plunge — may you be granted success — into the sayings of the people of innovation.
-
For it (the Qur’an) is his Speech. Its structure has baffled the whole creation
-
And its noble rulings have dazzled all sects of people.
-
From him, it began as it came, so take it as your support.
-
And do not argue with anyone about its verses, and hold yourself back.
-
And do not misinterpret what has come [in the scripture] for Allah of hearing and hand.
-
And say: He is Allah, One, the saying of a man who follows.
-
And indeed He, Mighty and Majestic, spoke to Moses, the one of fear,
-
When He manifested to the mountain openly, speech that is heard.
-
He listened to Him and comprehended with his ear what he heard.
-
Then he responded swiftly with a firm and meticulous response.
-
And do not agree with one who has gone astray, and say that the Possessor of power
-
Truly rose over the Throne, as He willed, so listen.
-
And He, exalted, is above in the heaven high, and the meaning of “wherever”
-
Is without [knowing] the howness, not as it occurs to the innovator.
-
Whoever compares Him from mankind to His creation has indeed disbelieved,
-
And has obeyed and supported the command of followed desire.
-
Woe to him from the weighing of deeds, and his sea, to me, is feeble.
-
Its surge has receded and diminished, so what do you see in its source?
-
And Hell stands in opposition, and its fire blazes.
-
And the criminal is cast into it, and it is said: “oh Fire, swallow.”
-
And the Garden of Firdaws has been adorned for the one who worshipped,
-
And stood at night and prostrated in his patched garment.
-
And its virgins are bosomy, and its rivers flow continuously,
-
And its birds sing upon every flourishing branch.
-
Oh You to whom my devotion is in every deep night,
-
And to whom is my refuge apart from creation, and my shelter.
-
Send blessings upon the best of mankind from every female and male,
-
Muhammad, the face of the moon, possessor of the protected, exalted rank.
