Nooniyah About the Virtues of Aishah (RA) نونية في فضل عائشة

مَا شَانُ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَشَانِي * هُدِيَ الْمُحِبُّ لَهَا وَضَلَّ الشَّانِي

What is my status compared to the status of the Mother of the Believers? The one who loves her is rightly guided, while the one who hates her is astray.

إِنِّي أَقُولُ مُبَيِّنًا عَنْ فَضْلِهَا * ومُتَرْجِمًا عَنْ قَوْلِهَا بِلِسَانِي

Indeed, I speak, clarifying her virtue, and convey her words in my own tongue.

يَا مُبْغِضِي لَا تَأْتِ قَبْرَ مُحَمَّدٍ * فَالْبَيْتُ بَيْتِي وَالْمَكَانُ مَكَانِي

Oh you who hate me, do not come near the grave of Muhammad, for the house is my house, and the place is my place.

إِنِّي خُصِصْتُ عَلَى نِسَاءِ مُحَمَّدٍ * بِصِفَاتِ بِرٍّ تَحْتَهُنَّ مَعَانِي

Indeed, I have been singled out, among the wives of Muhammad, with qualities of righteousness rich with meaning.

وَسَبَقْتُهُنَّ إِلَى الْفَضَائِلِ كُلِّهَا * فَالْسَّبْقُ سَبْقِي وَالْعِنَانُ عِنَانِي

And I surpassed them all in every virtue, so the lead is my lead, and the reins are my reins.

مَرِضَ النَّبِيُّ وَمَاتَ بَيْنَ تَرَائِبِي * فَالْيَوْمُ يَوْمِي وَالزَّمَانُ زَمَانِي

The Prophet fell ill and died between my chest, so today is my day, and this time is my time.

زَوْجِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لَمْ أَرَ غَيْرَهُ * اللَّهُ زَوَّجَنِي بِهِ وَحَبَانِي

My husband is the Messenger of Allah, I have seen none besides him; Allah Himself married me to him and honoured me.

وَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ الأَمِينُ بِصُورَتِي * فَأَحَبَّنِي الْمُخْتَارُ حِينَ رَآنِي

And Gabriel the trustworthy one came to him with my image, so the chosen one loved me when he saw me.

أَنَا بِكْرُهُ الْعَذْرَاءُ عِنْدِي سِرُّهُ * وَضَجِيعُهُ فِي مَنْزِلِي قَمَرَانِ

I was his virgin maiden; with me was his secret, and in my home, beside him, lie two moons.

وتَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ بِحُجَّتِي * وَبَرَاءَتِي فِي مُحْكَمِ الْقُرْآنِ

And Allah, the Most Great, spoke in my defence, declaring my innocence in the clear verses of the Qur’an.

وَاللَّهُ خَفَّرَنِي وَعَظَّمَ حُرْمَتِي * وَعَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ بَرَّانِي

And Allah has protected me and magnified my honour, and upon the tongue of His Prophet, He declared me innocent

وَاللَّهُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَدْ لَعَنَ الَّذِي * بَعْدَ الْبَرَاءَةِ بِالْقَبِيحِ رَمَانِي

And Allah, in the Qur’an, has cursed the one who, after my innocence was declared, still accused me with vile slander.

وَاللَّهُ وَبَّخَ مَنْ أَرَادَ تَنَقُّصِي * إِفْكًا وَسَبَّحَ نَفْسَهُ فِي شَانِي

And Allah rebuked those who sought to diminish me with falsehood, and He glorified Himself concerning my affair.

إِنِّي لَمُحْصَنَةُ الْإِزَارِ بَرِيئَةٌ * وَدَلِيلُ حُسْنِ طَهَارَتِي إِحْصَانِي

Indeed, I am chaste and guarded, innocent, and the proof of my purity is my very chastity.

وَاللَّهُ أَحْصَنَنِي بِخَاتَمِ رُسْلِهِ * وَأَذَلَّ أَهْلَ الإِفْكِ وَالْبُهْتَانِ

And Allah preserved me through the Seal of His Messengers, and He humiliated the people of slander and false accusation.

وَسَمِعْتُ وَحْيَ اللَّهِ عِنْدَ مُحَمَّدٍ * مِنْ جَبْرَئِيلَ وَنُورُهُ يَغْشَانِي

And I heard the revelation of Allah with Muhammad, from Gabriel, while its light would envelop me.

أَوْحَى إِلَيْهِ وَكُنْتُ تَحْتَ ثِيَابِهِ * فَحَنَا عَلَيَّ بِثَوْبِهِ وَخَبَانِي

Revelation would come to him while I was beneath his garment, so he would draw his cloak over me and cover me.

مَنْ ذَا يُفَاخِرُنِي وَيُنْكِرُ صُحْبَتِي * وَمُحَمَّدٌ فِي حَجْرِهِ رَبَّانِي

Who is there that can rival me or deny my companionship, when Muhammad himself raised me in his care?

وَأَخَذْتُ عَنْ أَبَوَيَّ دِينَ مُحَمَّدٍ * وَهُمَا عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ مُصْطَحِبَانِ

And I took the religion of Muhammad from my parents, while both of them were firm upon Islam.

وَأَبِي أَقَامَ الدِّينَ بَعْدَ مُحَمَّدٍ * فَالنَّصْلُ نَصْلِي وَالسِّنَانُ سِنَانِي

And my father upheld the religion after Muhammad, so the sword is my sword and the spear is my spear.

وَالْفَخْرُ فَخْرِي وَالْخِلَافَةُ فِي أَبِي * حَسْبِي بِهَذَا مَفْخَرًا وَكَفَانِي

And the honour is my honour, and the caliphate rests with my father, this is enough for me as a source of pride, and it suffices me.

وَأَنَا ابْنَةُ الصِّدِّيقِ صَاحِبِ أَحْمَدٍ * وَحَبِيبِهِ فِي السِّرِّ وَالإِعْلَانِ

And I am the daughter of the truthful one, the companion of Ahmad, his beloved in private and in public.

نَصَرَ النَّبِيَّ بِمَالِهِ وَفَعَالِهِ * وَخُرُوجِهِ مَعَهُ مِنَ الأَوْطَانِ

He supported the Prophet with his wealth and his deeds, and by leaving his homeland alongside him.

ثَانِيهِ فِي الْغَارِ الَّذِي سَدَّ الْكُوَى * بِرِدَائِهِ أَكْرِمْ بِهِ مِنْ ثَانِ

The second of the two in the cave, he who blocked its openings with his cloak; how noble a companion he was.

وَجَفَا الْغِنَى حَتَّى تَخَلَّلَ بِالْعَبَا * زُهْدًا وَأَذْعَنَ أَيَّمَا إِذْعَانِ

He turned away from wealth until he lived in coarse garments, out of asceticism, submitting with complete submission.

وَتَخَلَّلَتْ مَعَهُ مَلاَئِكَةُ السَّمَاءِ * وَأَتَتْهُ بُشْرَى اللَّهِ بِالرِّضْوَانِ

And the angels of the heavens gathered around him, and glad tidings from Allah came to him of His pleasure.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي لَمْ يَخْشَ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ * فِي قَتْلِ أَهْلِ الْبَغْيِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ

And he is the one who did not fear the blame of any blamer in killing the people of transgression and aggression.

قَتَلَ الأُلَى مَنَعُوا الزَّكَاةَ بِكُفْرِهِمْ * وَأَذَلَّ أَهْلَ الْكُفْرِ وَالطُّغْيَانِ

He killed those who withheld the charity out of disbelief, and humiliated the people of disbelief and transgression.

سَبَقَ الصَّحَابَةَ وَالقَرَابَةَ لِلْهُدَى * هُوَ شَيْخُهُمْ فِي الْفَضْلِ وَالإحْسَانِ

He surpassed the companions and the kin in guidance, he is their elder in virtue and excellence.

وَاللَّهِ مَا اسْتَبَقُوا لِنَيْلِ فَضِيلَةٍ * مِثْلَ اسْتِبَاقِ الْخَيْلِ يَوْمَ رِهَانِ

By Allah, whenever they raced to attain a virtue, like horses competing on the day of a wager,

إلَّا وَطَارَ أَبِي إِلَى عَلْيَائِهَا * فَمَكَانُهُ مِنْهَا أَجَلُّ مَكَانِ

Except that my father would soar ahead to its highest heights, and his place among them was the most exalted of places.

وَيْلٌ لِعَبْدٍ خَانَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ * بِعَدَاوةِ الأَزْوَاجِ وَالأَخْتَانِ

Woe to the one who betrays the family of Muhammad through enmity toward the wives and the in-laws.

طُوبَى لِمَنْ وَالَى جَمَاعَةَ صَحْبِهِ * وَيَكُونُ مِنْ أَحْبَابِهِ الْحَسَنَانِ

Glad tidings to the one who shows loyalty to the community of his companions and among his beloved people are Hassan and Hussain.

بَيْنَ الصَّحَابَةِ وَالْقَرَابَةِ أُلْفَةٌ * لَا تَسْتَحِيلُ بِنَزْغَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ

Between the companions and the relatives is a bond of harmony that cannot be broken by the whispering of Satan.

هُمْ كَالأَصَابِعِ فِي الْيَدَيْنِ تَوَاصُلًا * هَل يَسْتَوِي كَفٌّ بِغَيْرِ بَنَانِ

They are like the fingers upon the hands in their unity, can a hand be complete without its fingers?

حَصِرَتْ صُدُورُ الْكَافِرِينَ بِوَالِدِي * وَقُلُوبُهُمْ مُلِئَتْ مِنَ الأَضْغَانِ

The chests of the disbelievers were constricted because of my father, and their hearts were filled with resentment.

حُبُّ البَتُولِ وَبَعْلِهَا لَمْ يَخْتَلِفْ * مِن مِلَّةِ الإِسْلَامِ فِيهِ اثْنَانِ

Love for Al-Batoul and her husband, no one has disputed concerning it in Islam.

أَكْرِمْ بِأَرْبَعَةٍ أَئِمَّةِ شَرْعِنَا * فَهُمُ لِبَيْتِ الدِّينِ كَالأَرْكَانِ

How noble are the four, the leaders of our religion, for they are to the house of faith like its pillars.

نُسِجَتْ مَوَدَّتُهُمْ سَدًى فِي لُحْمَةٍ * فَبِنَاؤُهَا مِن أَثْبَتِ البُنْيَانِ

Their love has been woven firmly together, so its structure is among the strongest of foundations.

اللَّهُ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَ وُدِّ قُلُوبِهِمْ * لِيَغِيظَ كُلَّ مُنَافِقٍ طَعَّانِ

Allah joined their hearts together in love, to enrage every slanderous hypocrite.

رُحَمَاءُ بَيْنَهُمْ صَفَتْ أَخْلاقُهُمْ * وَخَلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ مِنَ الشَّنَآنِ

Merciful among themselves, their character was pure, and their hearts were free from hatred.

فَدُخُولُهُمْ بَيْنَ الأَحِبَّةِ كُلْفَةٌ * وَسِبَابُهُمْ سَبَبٌ إِلَى الْحِرْمَانِ

So their [hypocrites] intrusion among the beloved people is unwelcome, and their insults are a cause of deprivation.

جَمَعَ الإِلَٰهُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى أَبِي * وَاسْتُبْدِلُوا مِنْ خَوْفِهِمْ بِأَمَانِ

Allah united the Muslims upon my father, and replaced their fear with security.

وَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ نُصْرَةَ عَبْدِهِ * مَنْ ذَا يُطِيقُ لَهُ عَلَى خِذْلَانِ

And when Allah intends to grant victory to His servant, who is there that can bring about his defeat?

مَنْ حَبَّنِي فَلْيَجْتَنِبْ مَنْ سَبَّنِي * إِنْ كَانَ صَانَ مَحَبَّتِي وَرَعَانِي

Whoever loves me, let him avoid the one who reviles me, if he truly preserves my love and shows me regard.

وَإِذَا مُحِبِّي قَدْ أَلَظَّ بِمُبْغِضِي * فَكِلَاهُمَا فِي الْبُغْضِ مُسْتَوِيَانِ

And if my lover persists in keeping company with my hater, then both of them are equal in hatred.

إِنِّي لَطَيِّبَةٌ خُلِقْتُ لِطَيِّبٍ * وَنِسَاءُ أَحْمَدَ أَطْيَبُ النِّسْوَانِ

Indeed, I am pure, created for one who is pure, and the wives of Ahmad are the purest of women.

إِنِّي لَأُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَمَنْ أَبَى * حُبِّي فَسَوْفَ يَبُوءُ بِالْخُسْرَانِ

Indeed, I am the Mother of the Believers, so whoever refuses to love me will surely return bearing loss.

اللَّهُ حَبَّبَنِي لِقَلْبِ نَبِيِّهِ * وَإِلَى الصِّرَاطِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ هَدَانِي

Allah made me beloved to the heart of His Prophet, and guided me to the straight path.

وَاللَّهُ يُكْرِمُ مَنْ أَرَادَ كَرَامَتِي * وَيُهِينُ رَبِّي مَنْ أَرَادَ هَوَانِي

And Allah honours the one who seeks to honour me, and my Lord humiliates the one who seeks to dishonour me.

وَاللَّهَ أَسْأَلُهُ زِيَادَةَ فَضْلِهِ * وَحَمِدْتُهُ شُكْرًا لِمَا أَوْلَانِي

And I ask Allah for an increase of His bounty, and I praise Him in gratitude for what He has granted me.

يَا مَنْ يَلُوذُ بِأَهْلِ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّدٍ * يَرْجُو بِذَلِكَ رَحْمَةَ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ

Oh you who seek refuge with the family of Muhammad, hoping thereby for the mercy of the Most Merciful,

صِلْ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَا تَحِدْ * عَنَّا فَتُسْلَبَ حُلَّةَ الْإِيْمَانِ

Maintain ties with the Mothers of the Believers and do not turn away from us, lest you be stripped of the garment of faith.

إِنِّي لَصَادِقَةٌ الْمَقَالِ كَرِيمَةٌ * إِي وَالَّذِي ذَلَّتْ لَهُ الثَّقَلَانِ

Indeed, I am truthful in speech and noble, yes, by the One before whom both Jinn and Mankind are humbled.

خُذْهَا إِلَيْكَ فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ رَوْضَةٌ * مَحْفُوفَةٌ بِالرَّوْحِ وَالرَّيْحَانِ

Take it, for it is but a garden, surrounded by comfort and fragrant blossoms.

صَلَّى الْإِلَـٰهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَآلِهِ * فَبِهِمْ تُشَمُّ أَزَاهِرُ الْبُسْتَانِ

May Allah send blessings upon the Prophet and his family, for through them the flowers of the garden are given their scent.
